Why I chose to participate: I have always been interested in the topic of war and peace, and I thought that participating in this programme would be a good experience for me to think deeper about the history of war, its impact on humanity and how peace can be achieved. Also, the internment of Japanese-Americans is a history that is rarely brought up in discussion in Japan, despite the fact that it was experienced by people with roots in Japan. Therefore, I would like to see the fields and materials with my own eyes, hear the stories with my own ears in the US, where it all happened.

Why I chose to participate: I have been interested in Japanese-American internment and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team for quite a while. As a person of Japanese descent, it is interesting to consider how Executive Order 9066 may have affected my family and myself had interracial marriage been legal at the time. The translation and documentation aspects further pulled me in.
